Sprint®, Bay Area Rapid Transit® (BART), Jack in the Box®, First Data®, and Western Union Speedpay® have partnered to allow you to use your Sprint® phone to pay instead of tickets or cards.
A limited number of Sprint® and Boost Mobile® customers will be able to participate in a trial of this service. The trial will be conducted in the San Francisco Bay Area from Jan - May 2008.
Can I participate?
If you answer yes to the following questions, you are a potential candidate for participating in the trial, pending some further questions later.
- Are you a Sprint or Boost Mobile wireless customer?
- Do you personally pay your Sprint or Boost Mobile wireless bill?
- Do you ride BART at least 1 time per week?
- Will you be living in the San Francisco area through May '08?
- Are you willing to use this trial phone as your primary phone in a 4 month trial?

|
What do I have to do?
- Click here to SIGN UP.
- Receive a new Sprint phone to use during the trial and attend a training session on how to use the phone.
- Receive money for participating.
- Make payments with your Sprint phone at the BART fare gates and at Jack in the Box merchant locations.
- Provide survey feedback and/or answer questions in focus groups on how you like the phone.
|
What benefit will I get from participating the trial?
- You will be paid an incentive for your participation.
- You will have the convenience of your leather wallet in your Sprint mobile phone in a secure fashion. You won’t have to fumble for cash, a ticket or card when riding BART or paying at Jack in the Box. Simply hold your phone up to the reader and you’re done!
- You will pass through the lines at a faster pace.
- You will use cutting edge technology for everyday purchases.
|
Is this secure?
- Your card information is securely stored in your phone using advanced encryption technology.
- You will also have the ability to lock your information by using a password.
- As with any payment product, you should also take appropriate steps to safeguard your phone and associated personal identification numbers and passwords. More information will be provided on this should you elect to participate.
|
|
How will my purchases be billed?
Using your Sprint phone to pay for your BART ride will work similar to the EZ Rider card. When you sign up for the trial, you will register your credit card number with Western Union Speedpay to load value onto the phone. The amount loaded will be equal to a $48 high value discount ticket, meaning we'll load $48 in value and only charge you $45. When your "wallet" amount reaches $10 or under, Western Union SpeedPay will automatically refill your fare from the credit card that you registered at sign up. The Jack in the Box card included on the phone is just like a prepaid card. You will be given some money to start with and you can refill it throughout the trial.
|
Where can I use this phone?
Participating merchants to use the payment features include but are not limited to the below locations. All other Sprint phone features can be used anywhere in the nationwide Sprint network.
- At all BART stations
- At all Jack in the Box locations in the San Francisco metro area. Click here for locations.
